2015 EASTERN EDGE FILM "LITTLE SOLDIER" wins a Special Mention Jury Award
Little Soldier (Exec Produced by Anton Califano) was singled out for a London Calling Jury Award Special Mention, with the jury saying: "This film has been carefully-rendered, with strong direction and superb acting throughout. It was refreshing to see a short which captured its council estate setting's sense of community, rather than viewing it through a negative lens."
The Awards marked the end of a year-long process through which some 21 filmmaking teams were selected from over 620 applications, receiving production funding and a high-level package of training, support and expert industry mentoring. Sixteen films were made via the London Calling initiative and five via London Calling Plus, which champions black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) talent with a track record in storytelling and is delivered as part of the BFI NET.WORK for supporting new talent
The films covered many genres, from comedy to horror with plenty of drama and thrills in between, were judged by a jury of industry experts comprising BAFTA-winning producer Stephen Woolley, Finn Halligan, Chief Critic and Reviews Editor at Screen International, Briony Hanson, Head of Film, British Council, Deborah Sathe, Head of Talent Development and Production, Film London, Rich Warren, Festival Producer, Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival and chaired by Josic Cadoret, Producer of Film London's Short Film Schemes. The filmmaking team behind Rainbow Party received this year's £2,000 prize.
We are looking for original short film ideas from emerging and experienced filmmakers living or working in REDBRIDGE or WALTHAM FOREST to produce an original short film. Two grants of up to £4,000 are available for fiction, documentary or animation films. The award also includes free professional support from an Executive Producer, training from industry professionals, access to production facilities and opportunities for public screenings.
